This classic '50s styled Corvette has a very
interesting history. It was originally a low performance (hydraulic cam) 283/250HP car. Also on the
option list was heater, interior light and removable hardtop. It was owned by General Motors president Roger
Smith for almost 20 years. After a front-end collision he decided to sell the car
rather than fix it. This is a low mileage car if the odometer is to be believed -
45,000 miles. This car is going to be restored correctly to solid driver status
using all correct OEM parts in case an NCRS certification should be in the future.
The bodywork has been completed using all correct press molded panels and waits for
the chassis to be restored. The current task is to rebuild the entire suspension
after 40 years of Michigan roads. Here are the parts before the team started the
restoration. The frame also had wrinkle in it from the accident that was pulled
and gusseted for a lasting repair.
