What How Cost

How much will it Cost.

People say we are crazy when they hear what we charge - usually in a good way. We do not apply any charge to the parts - not one dollar. We are craftsmen, not in the parts business. Depending on the complexity you could have a parts bill of $50,000 or more and any mark up is going to add a lot to the overall cost. If you want a $10,000 crate engine it is going to cost you $10,000 - we are not going to mark it up to $12,000 on your invoice. We shop for the best price, delivery and service and buy from people we have used in the past. This prevents delays wherever possible and gives us flexibility if we need to return something. You receive the actual invoice we receive. We also stage the purchases to spread the parts cost out over the length of the build. At the start of a project the owner needs to provide $5,000 as a parts fund. We provide an accounting of how it is spent and related invoices each month.

Our shop labor is $50 an hour. We are very small and this is not our full time job. We have a passion to build really cool cars one at a time. We only build one car at a time and that allows us to limit our overhead and manage costs. Each month we invoice you the labor hours. This allows you to pay for your project over time versus putting out a huge amount all at once.

What does it really cost in the end? That depends on your performance requirements and the vehicle you choose. Building an unlimited performance car from a very expensive donor car can cost a fortune. As a frame of reference the midnite blue '66 Corvette on the home page cost over $150,000 excluding the interior. Corvettes are expensive to buy and every part of that project car is state of the art with no expense spared. A similar car built from a less expensive car (Camaro, Mustang, Nova) with a simpler drive train, less expensive wheels/tires/brakes and related parts could cost $75,000. In today's market place an engine alone can vary from $2,500 to $15,000+. A quality paint job can run from $10,000 to $20,000. This shows how the owner's decisions affect the total cost of the car. What we do is work out a project plan, estimate costs based on material and bill the labor hours as we apply them. At any time the owner can decide to skip a task to save money or add features to make the car more unique. Because we bill monthly it is easier to manage the cost for the car owner. These projects typically take 12 - 18 months to complete spreading the cost over a considerable time period.
